Charles was born in Waverley, Massachusetts.
Andriolo Hall on the (former) U.S. Submarine Base in Pearl Harbor was named in his memory for outstanding service in TANG on her third war patrol.

The Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (shown to the right of the Purple Heart Medal above) was originally established as the Navy Commendation Ribbon.
